3 Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Physical Therapy

Posted on

Going to physical therapy is an important part of recovery after an injury. However, many people go to therapy without getting the results that they want. This is generally not a problem with the therapist, but instead it is a lack of understanding on the part of the patient. In many cases it up to you how effective your physical therapy is. Here are some things you can do to get the most out of your therapy.

1. Take Pictures and Always Write Things Down

The amount that you go to physical therapy will depend on the recommendations of your therapist and your doctor. However, you will be responsible for working on the same exercises at home. In fact, you can speed up your therapy by doing your homework correctly and fully.

If you try to remember every exercise that you are supposed to do on your own, you are likely to forget things, or at least do the form wrong. This is why you should always have a paper and pencil to write down every exercise. Many people also find that taking pictures is a great way to remind themselves of the form.

2. Don't Do Your Own Exercises Or Omit Ones You Don't Like

Some people think it is better to take their treatment into their own hands. They might choose exercises from the Internet to add to their practice, or they could omit certain exercises that their therapist recommends. This is very dangerous. If you want the full results you need to do the treatment plan correctly. Unless you have been trained in medicine or physical therapy, you shouldn't change your treatment plan.

3.See The Same Therapist Every Time

To get the best results you should be seeing the same therapist every time you go to therapy. If the office that you are going to has you see someone different each time, you might consider going elsewhere, or requesting that you only see one therapist. Your therapist and you need to make a treatment plan together that you both adhere to. If you are seeing someone new each time it is like starting over. Unless they can fully follow the initial plan from the other therapist there is a good chance that you are going to miss out on progress. This is why you should find a therapist you like, and stick with them.

By doing these simple things you are most likely to get the best results from your physical therapy.
